Allen & Pinnix attorney Brenner Allen* drafted commentary on the new European Union Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR) for a revised Smit & Herzog commentary. April 27, 2016 Announcing the Publication of the 2016 Supplement to World Intellectual Property Rights and Remedies

Noel Allen, Nathan Standley, and Brenner Allen* author the U.S. commentary for this Thomson Reuters publication. The 2016 supplement for the publication is scheduled to be published this month. Included among the updates is the discussion several recent court cases and developments concerning 35 U.S.C. § 271 on patent infringement; the ramifications of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc. v. Sandoz; efforts to pass legislation overhauling existing patent laws; and several recent court cases regarding the awarding of attorneys’ fees in intellectual property disputes.


April 13, 2016 Noel Allen Presents to Second Annual North Carolina Occupational Licensing Board Seminar

Noel Allen presented to staff, board members, and counsel for the state’s occupational licensing boards, on antitrust disputes arising in the year since the U.S. Supreme Court decided the N.C. Dental Board v. Federal Trade Commission case. Highlights included two cases originating with North Carolina professional licensing boards, as well as several pending lawsuits that could eventually clarify the Supreme Court’s decision in the N.C. Dental Board case.

Noel Allen and Brenner Allen* participated in a panel discussion before the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy Executive Directors and Legal Counsel Conferences. Their presentations focused on recent changes to the definition of “attest” in the Uniform Accountancy Act and some states’ laws. They also focused on the practical effect of this definition change on the regulation of the practice of accountancy.
